How to get each LinkedIn image right
Knowing the size is half the job. The other half is knowing what LinkedIn crops, covers or compresses, so the important part of your image survives.
- Profile photo: 400 x 400 px, face in the centre
LinkedIn accepts photos from 400 x 400 up to 7680 x 4320 pixels, in JPG or PNG, up to 8 MB. It shows them in a circle, so keep your face centred with some margin: anything in the corners disappears.
- Profile banner: 1584 x 396 px, nothing in the bottom-left corner
The banner sits behind your profile photo, which covers its bottom-left corner on desktop, and mobile crops the sides. Keep text and logos in the centre-right. Our free banner generator creates it at exactly 1584 x 396 with the photo zone marked.
- Post images: 1080 px wide, portrait for the most space
LinkedIn accepts post images from 552 x 276 px but recommends 1080 px wide. Portrait 1080 x 1350 (4:5) takes the most space in the mobile feed; anything taller is centred and cropped. Square 1080 x 1080 works everywhere; landscape 1200 x 627 suits screenshots and link previews.
- Carousels: one PDF, every page the same size
A document post is a PDF (or PPT, PPTX, DOC, DOCX) of up to 100 MB and 300 pages. LinkedIn sets no pixel size but wants every page the same size: 1080 x 1350 or 1080 x 1080 are the common choices.
- Company page: 400 x 400 logo, 1512 x 256 cover
Page images must be PNG or JPEG, 3 MB at most. The logo is 400 x 400 px (268 x 268 minimum). The cover is 1512 x 256 px, a different format from a personal profile banner, so do not reuse the same file.
- Export for screens, not for print
DPI does not matter on screen, only pixels do. A print export quickly goes over the 5 MB post limit and gets rejected. Export at 1080 px wide, JPG for photos, PNG for visuals with text.
How Makelead does it
- A free LinkedIn banner generator that exports at exactly 1584 x 396 px, with the profile-photo zone marked.
- Free LinkedIn logo files in PNG and SVG, from 16 to 512 px, for your resume, signature or website.
- A free post preview that shows where the see-more fold lands on desktop and mobile.
- In the product, Makelead writes your LinkedIn and X posts in your voice, then contacts the people who react to posts on your topic, under a fixed cap of 200 invitations a week.
Mistakes to avoid
- Putting text or a logo in the bottom-left corner of the banner, where the profile photo covers it.
- Reusing your profile banner (1584 x 396) as a company page cover (1512 x 256).
- Posting a 9:16 phone photo: LinkedIn crops anything taller than 4:5.
- Mixing page sizes in a carousel PDF.
- Exporting at print resolution and going over the 5 MB limit for post images.
- Uploading images under 1080 px wide, which look blurry on large screens.
